There’s something special about seeing a movie in the theater. It’s the anticipation when the lights dim and sound rises, mixed with the scent of popcorn and a favorite movie star entering the big screen.
It’s been almost ten years since the Cinemark Century Theatres at Capital Mall have seen a renovation. It’s been well worth the wait. With the addition of reserved seating and Luxury Loungers, the movie experience just went up a notch in Olympia. “People want to be entertained,” says marketing manager Jennifer Wood about the upgrades. “At Cinemark, we create a comfortable entertainment environment so movie goers can watch films on the big screen, the way the directors and film makers intended them to be seen.”
As I meet up with General Manager Amy Gardner, for a tour of the remodel, I can’t help but notice the new seats, on display in front of the theater. Amy tells me she’s had plenty of positive feedback about the change. “Customers really like the Loungers because they are comfortable and relaxing. The look is updated and upscale.” Walking into one of the remodeled theaters, I can see what she means. Cinemark opted for quality changes.
The theaters now seat half as many customers for a movie showing, but with online reserved seating, Amy says they are seeing more people than ever. However, that wasn’t the focus of the renovation. “We wanted to give our loyal customers in Olympia a state of the art movie theatre by upgrading our auditoriums to Luxury Loungers to enhance the movie going experience,” says Jennifer. Not only do the new seats have cup holders, but come complete with an electric footrest guests can raise.
And the new encounter doesn’t stop there. Not only will guests now get to kick back in comfort, but their viewing experience is better than ever. With more space and steps between rows, you no longer have to worry about that tall person who always ends up sitting in front of you. I personally climb all the way to the top row and sit down to take it in. It’s amazing how you can’t even see the tops of the recliners in front of you. There’s no longer a bad seat in the house.
Along with the upgraded seating, they have also improved the audio quality with new speakers. Jennifer tells me it’s all part of the future vision for Cinemark. “Quality of presentation will become more innovative. Sound systems are more dynamic, and there will be improvements in picture clarity and brightness. You will see more alternative content on our screens; in addition to Hollywood films we show the MET Opera, The Bolshoi Ballet, concerts, live events, and so much more.”
Currently, about half of the auditoriums are finished and ready for your movie viewing. The remaining auditoriums are in the process of being upgraded as well and should be done shortly. The next time you are walking by the Cinemark Century Theatre stop and try out one of the Luxury Loungers. Believe me, you will not want to get back up and instead may feel the need to see the latest movie.
Of course, Cinemark Century knows when not to change a good thing too. You can still get that delicious, buttery movie popcorn or your favorite candy and snack. However, being extra comfortable is always a plus.
