Summer is all about playing outside during those long, sunny days. However, every now and then we need a break to cool off and relax. One of the best opportunities to do just that is at a local movie theater. Grab some popcorn and some Raisinets to enjoy some low cost, summer blockbusters across Thurston County.
Regal Cinemas Summer Movie Express
The Lacey Regal Cinemas location will host their annual Summer Movie Express. Ten weeks of movie madness for children of any age will begin on June 26, 2018. Every Tuesday and Wednesday, a different kids movie will be offered at only $1! A portion of the proceeds benefits the Will Rogers Institute to promote funding for medical research and purchasing neonatal medical equipment.
If you are looking to save on snacks during these films, be sure to download the Regal Cinemas app that allows you to accumulate points toward free and discounted items. It also will allow you to view the daily movie schedule for the Movie Express. Movies for this summer include hits like “Lego Batman,” “Trolls,” “Minions” and “The Secret Life of Pets.” A full list of dates and movies are located on their website.

Screen on the Green
This summer family favorite is put on by Tumwater Parks and Recreation every year at the Tumwater Valley Golf Course. As the sun begins to set on a Friday in August, the course becomes a theater hosting dozens of kids from around Thurston County to enjoy some of the best children’s movies released.
This completely free event will host movies beginning August 3, 2018. This year’s lineup includes “Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle,” “Peter Rabbit,” “A Wrinkle in Time” and “Wonder Woman.” Be sure to come early to utilize the park-like setting for a picnic dinner and grab the best spots for the show.
Lacey in Tune Movies at Dusk
Lacey Parks and Recreation knows how to bring summer entertainment to Thurston County during their annual “Lacey in Tune” series. During the day, concerts from local artists take the stage at Huntamer Park and when it gets dark, movies become the main event.
Saturdays at dusk is the start of all of the free movies this summer. Bring a snack from home or enjoy something special from the concession stand with your family. Either way, it is bound to be an evening of free family fun.
