A New Semi-Private Strength Training Gym in Olympia

Scott, who is a personal trainer and massage therapist, understands the importance of strength training on a personal level. “I have not only seen strength training help people in my career, but I’ve also seen it help me,” explains Scott. “I used to have the pains that everyone else does. You know, bad knees and a bad back, and thought, ‘This is just my life.’ But then I discovered strength training and found myself with less pain the stronger I became.”

Alliance Athletics opened this past April and has since acquired over 40 members. As a member you can reserve your time frame ahead of your visit. Scott says this helps keep a nice flow on the equipment so that everyone gets a chance to use it. It also eliminates general overcrowding and minimizes potential COVID exposure.

In addition, this system allows members to see how many others have signed up for their desired time frame. That way, they can enjoy the gym in pure isolation if they choose.

Scott truly believes it takes a full-scope approach to live a better life through strength training. That’s why his personalized coaching options are tailored specifically to each person.

Alliance Athletics has two coaching options: a one-on-one personal coaching model and a hybrid one.

The one-on-one personal coaching model includes working with a personalized trainer for an hour weekly. Here, you will go over techniques and training philosophy, receive guidance on form, and decide how much weight to use based on your skill level.

For the rest of the week, while you’re away from your trainer, the personal coaching model sets you up with a guided program specific to you via a smartphone app. The app includes information on exercises, the number of reps and sets, and which weights to use. Additionally, there are video tutorials so you can follow along.

“Our guided programs are customized for each person individually so that you never go into the gym without knowing what your plan is,” explains Scott.

The other coaching option is the hybrid model. The hybrid model is perfect for gym-goers who are slightly more confident in their lifting abilities. This model includes one free session with a personal trainer to help build confidence. The rest is done via the app, so you never have to meet with a coach but always have a weekly personalized routine for your specific needs.

Scott says that one of the most important aspects of Alliance Athletics is its dedication to being a safe space for BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ community members.

“We are dedicated to making sure the gym doesn’t feel like a place that is intimidating, or maybe even dangerous, for anyone,” explains Scott. “We have a very strong anti-bigotry and anti-bullying policy. We’re here to cheer people on and support one another.”

Unlike so many other gyms, Alliance Athletics has no cancellation or initiation fees, which they hope offers their members more transparency. “We want to cultivate a gym experience for members that makes them actually want to sign up with us rather than cultivate one that they feel trapped in,” Scott Explains.

If you want to get in touch with your mental and physical health in a personalized and hands-on environment, call Alliance Athletics and see what they can help you achieve.
