Four teachers from Pope John Paul II High School were chosen to attend Notre Dame’s highly regarded seminar on Science and Religion that challenges the notion that the two disciplines are in conflict. The program is limited to forty-five participants from around the country who will receive a deeper understanding of the task of Catholic education to create “a synthesis of culture and faith.”

To be considered for the program, STEM and religion teachers responded to particular essay questions and shared how each of them encounters and deals with integrating theology and science/STEM at their particular school. Notre Dame provides all participants course materials, room, and board and a $750 stipend to defray costs. Teachers also receive sixty contact hours for Professional Development.

Representing JPII are science teacher and StellarXplorer moderator, Dr. Tracy Russell;   theology teacher, Gwen Bowen; and mathematics teachers, Megan Davis and Kim Viall.

Dr. Russell said, “I am excited to hear from leading scientists and theologians as well as collaborate with faculty from Notre Dame University and Catholic high schools from around the country as we develop ways to better incorporate our faith into the STEM curriculum at JPII.”
