Fresh Events and Activities – with a Side of Sourdough – at The Marie Bed & Breakfast

Innkeeper and head chef Emily Dunn says that autumn’s arrival doesn’t slow things down at The Marie. But what better way to start things off than the smell of freshly baking bread. “The rich history of the Marie Bed & Breakfast goes beyond just its historical architecture,” says Dunn. “The bread served at the establishment has its own special story from the past. Made in house by Joanna Lopez, she crafts her artisan sourdough using a starter that originates from the 1890’s Klondike Goldrush.”

Lopez is Operations Manager for the  West Central Park Neighborhood Center and splits her time between their offices and the Marie’s kitchen. Dunn says that what originally started as a passion project was recently branded as Oly Bread. “Over the years she has perfected her craft and now offers guests a special taste of living history during their visit,” says Dunn. “Oly Bread isn’t available for sale to the public at this time, but you can always find it at the breakfast table when staying at The Marie.”

Come Explore Goodies Galore at the Artisan Market and Yule Tide Celebrations

Oly Bread may not be for sale but you can sample three new flavors at The Marie’s Autumn Open House on September 28, 2024. This is just one of their welcoming annual events celebrating the best Olympia has to offer. The Open House runs from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. and invites guests to tour the house and grounds while sampling tasty treats.

On November 9 is the Olympia Artisan Market. From 11 a.m. until 4 p.m., bring your holiday gift list and come ready to shop. Dunn promises the Market will showcase very talented local artists as well as host a raffle for a free stay in the Walnut Suite, The Marie’s original master bedroom.

By December, The Marie is fully decked out for the season. Come to their Yuletide Open House for live music by Almost Blue, tours, raffles and yes, more tasty treats. These include vegan oatmeal cookies, classic chocolate chip cookies and tangy cranberry scones.

In the 2025, look for April’s Mind, Body and Soul Market or July’s Midsummer Music Market and so many others. The Marie can also be rented for private events like birthday parties or anniversary celebrations. Simply call the team at 360.915.8039 and staff will discuss your specific needs and all the ways they can make each and every event perfect.

Olympia’s Most Romantic Getaway Year after Year

Such a packed calendar makes sense from a locale which is regularly awarded high honors in the annual Best of South Sound competition. This year The Marie took Bronze in both hotel and lodging and most romantic getaway categories. Dunn says that these awards build excitement amongst staff and drive their desire to go above and beyond. Whether it’s putting out fresh flowers and homemade treats or providing customized décor for special occasions, they’re always happy to help. “From birthdays to weddings and honeymoon fun, we are ready to jump in any way to celebrate our amazing and loyal guest,” says Dunn.

Winter rates are adjusted to encourage more locals in booking a staycation. “Check us out online and give us a call to see how we can make your stay the best it can be,” says Dunn. “You’ll even enjoy a gourmet breakfast customized to any dietary needs, restrictions and preferences.”

Please note that The Marie is closed from December 23 through 30 so staff can spend time and celebrate the season with their families. Follow them on Facebook and Instagram for the latest additions, news and updates.

Then, as you organize your schedule for the remainder of 2024, make sure you save time for a close-to-home escape from the norm – complete with sourdough – at The Marie Bed & Breakfast.
