The Evergreen State College women’s track and field athletes Alauna Carstens (Jr., So. in indoor track) and Izabelle Trefts (Jr.) are scheduled to compete at the 2025 NAIA Indoor Track and Field Championships, set for Feb. 27 through March 1 at the Alachua County Sports & Events Center in Gainesville, Florida. Carstens is entered in the 3,000-meter run and Trefts will participate in the 3,000-meter race walk.
Carstens qualified for the NAIA Indoor Championships in three events but will focus on the 3,000-meter run. Her top time in the 3,000 is a school record at 9:40.70. She also qualified for nationals while setting school records in the mile run at 4:57.58 and in the 5,000-meter run at 17:15.53.
Trefts earned her berth into the NAIA Indoor Championships with a school record time of 14:24.70 in the 3,000-meter race walk at the Corban Indoor Open on Feb. 1. She tied her best time while taking seventh place at the USA Track and Field Indoor Championships on Feb. 22 in Staten Island, New York, when she also finished the race in 14:24.70.
The first Geoduck to compete in Gainesville will be Trefts in the preliminary heats of the 3,000-meter race walk on Thursday, Feb. 27. The prelims are set to begin at 10:45 a.m. EST / 7:45 a.m. PST with Trefts in the second heat. The final in the 3,000-meter race walk is scheduled for 10:45 a.m. EST / 7:45 a.m. PST on Friday, Feb. 28.
Carstens will participate in the preliminary heats of the 3,000-meter run on Thursday, Feb. 28. The heats will begin at 4:15 p.m. EST / 1:15 p.m. PST. Carstens is scheduled to run in the second heat. The final in the 3,000-meter run is set for 3 p.m. EST / 12 p.m. PST on Saturday, March 1.
In her career at Evergreen, Carstens has earned All-America status three times. She placed 15th at the 2023 NAIA Cross Country Championships to achieve her first All-America honor. At the 2024 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, she grabbed All-America status by placing seventh in the 5,000-meter run. She won the NAIA Marathon Championship in December of 2024 to claim her most recent All-America honor.
