While you may be tempted to avoid getting life insurance or you are telling yourself that your family will somehow figure out how to pay the bills after you’re gone, Melanie Bakala at State Farm says don’t put it off. And she reminds you that a GoFundMe online crowdfunding platform is not life insurance.

“Let’s talk,” she says, after seeing GoFundMe postings for families left financially devastated after the death of a loved one. “The mission in our agency is that everyone understands how affordable life insurance is, and how it works.”

Melanie Bakala and Her State Farm Team Are Dedicated to Helping 150 Families Each Year with Life Insurance

“Our mission this year is to protect 150 families with life insurance,” Bakala says of her teams in Shelton and Lacey/Olympia. “That’s our goal.” In fact, her team wears superhero-themed shirts with each new life insurance policy issued to recognize they have safeguarded one more family.

Bakala suggests people consider the impact on their survivors if their paycheck suddenly stops after they die, and bill-paying is a struggle. “We try to get people to slow down a bit and give an agent about 10 minutes, and to show how affordable it is,” she explains.

In those conversations, Bakala and her team can dispose of two life insurance misconceptions. The first is that it’s too expensive, and the second is that it takes too long to arrange for life insurance. “We want to take these two things off the table,” she says. Bakala says there is a plan for everybody. And with phone, online submissions and electronic signatures, it’s easier than ever to take the steps to secure life insurance. Bakala invites those interested to call or stop by to have a one-on-one conversation with a member of her local State Farm agents who can answer your specific questions.
