The Thurston County Board of County Commissioners is excited to announce that the Thurston County Art Contest is back for a second round in 2025! This opportunity is open to county residents of all ages to showcase their artistic talents. The contest is open to youth, and adults to showcase all types of artistic medium.
The theme for the contest is, “Homegrown and Handmade.” This theme provides an opportunity for artists to celebrate and showcase the diverse aspects of Thurston County that resonate with them with their artwork.
“Last year’s Art Contest was very well received by our community with over 100 submissions, the talent was incredible. We are excited to host it again in 2025. This is a deeply artistic community and I am grateful for those who choose to share their talents with us,” said Tye Menser, Thurston County Chair, District One. “We hope to receive even more submissions this year and see how our community embraces the theme, “Homegrown and Handmade.”
Artwork submissions can be dropped off from May 27 to May 30 at the Atrium, located at 3000 Pacific Ave SE, Olympia, Washington, 98501. Please visit the county’s website for additional drop off times and locations.
Last year’s contest drew in over 100 submissions and entries of seven different mediums, including paintings, drawings, dioramas, wood working, photography, sculptures, and poetry.
The submissions will be judged by the Thurston County Board of County Commissioners. The categories for judging will be youth, adults, and Thurston County employees. There will be a “People’s Choice Voting” on the county’s official Facebook page in mid-June. The winners will be announced in June, and winning artwork may be featured at county offices for public viewing.
