Healing from an injury or surgery often includes a physical therapy regiment of exercises and movement to bring the body’s tendons, muscles, bones and nerves back to optimum performance. Today, new options are available for patients at Penrose & Associates Physical Therapy in Lacey, and those tools involve regenerative medicine therapies to “kick-start” healing.

“Regenerative therapy’s goal is to repair and regenerate damaged tissues without medication or surgery,” explains Dr. Jennifer Penrose, the clinic’s owner and a physical therapist.

Penrose says this therapy is based on the principle that our bodies are designed to heal. Her staff take that intrinsic design and incorporate technologies such as Stimpod, Extracorporeal Magnetotransduction Therapy (EMTT) and Shockwave. These treatments create pulses or waves stimulating microcirculation and improve healing and tissue repair in a noninvasive way. Pairing physical movement with nervous system activity generated by these technologies can help grow and reorganize neural networks.

These healing technologies are used to treat knee issues, neuropathies, arthritis, herniated discs, tendonitis, plantar fasciitis and more. Dr. Penrose’s podcasts give other examples of where regenerative therapies have shown themselves to be effective.

Regenerative Therapy’s Evidence-Based Treatments Help Patients Recover at Penrose Physical Therapy

Penrose says strong credible evidence backs up results showing these regenerative therapies produce better recovery outcomes for patients. Stimpod uses pulse radio frequencies to reset nerves. EMTT uses high magnetic impulses to create physiological changes and dramatically reduce inflammation. Shockwave therapy, also known as extracorporeal shockwave therapy, is administered to a through the skin and stimulates blood flow. Penrose says her clinic has the equipment and trained staff to provide these treatments, in conjunction with traditional physical therapy.

Penrose says these tools have been applied in Europe for many years. And U.S. sports teams and major medical centers utilize these technologies, although insurance often does not cover them for most patients. Penrose & Associates is one of the few area clinics currently offering regenerative medicine therapy. “It’s making its way more into mainstream,” says Penrose. “It’s gaining more traction.”
